BALANCED EQUINE is Cold pressed Canadian hempseed oil, which is natures supreme blend of essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
BALANCED EQUINE provides a balance of Omega 3, 6 & 9 in the ideal ratio plus vitamin E, vitamin A, and GLA (Gamma- Linolenic acid) We will talk about the magic of GLAs in a bit. Hempseed oil provides naturally occurring phospholipids, which may play a role in athletic performance. Our equines are meant to metabolize BALANCED EQUINE’s plant derived Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA’s) into their usable energy needed for optimal health, performance and recovery.
BALANCED EQUINE IS not subjected to high heat processing or solvent extraction like vegetable, corn, soy, and rice bran oils. Due to the vibrancy and quality of this oil for horses, only 1-2 ounces once or twice per day is needed.
The “Magic” of GLAs is what sets Hempseed Oil apart and in our opinion high above other oils. GLAs govern the prostaglandins in our horses’ bodies. Prostaglandins are hormone- like substances that play the role of chemical messengers inside the cell, this matters because they regulate inflammation among other benefits. There are two predominant prostaglandins: PGE-1 the anti-inflammatory prostaglandin and PGE-2 the pro inflammatory prostaglandin. GLA increases production of PGE-1, thus reducing the levels of PGE-2. The prostaglandins are also involved in the increased secretion of protective mucus in the GI tract, which makes Hempseed Oils GLA an important ingredient for horses with ulcer issues. Misoprostol, a common medication for horses with hind gut ulcers is a synthetic form of PGE-1.
Why Are Omegas so important? Balanced Equine provides both Omega 6 and 3 essential fatty acids (EFA’s). They are essential meaning they need to be obtained by a food source because they can’t be synthesized by the body. Our equines acquire their EFA’s from their grass and hay diets. It is difficult to maintain enough grass in a performance diet or test every feed sample to ensure adequate EFA’s are being met and in the optimal ratio. Our horses need adequate fat for daily maintenance and conditioning.
We believe it is vital for good health to have Omega 6 higher than Omega 3 because Omega 6 gives off a pro-inflammatory response. This pro inflammatory response signals the body’s auto immune system that there is a problem and to send necessary help to that location for recovery. Omega 3 provides the body’s anti-inflammatory properties. If Omega 3 is higher than Omega 6 it can turn off the body’s natural response to heal itself and only mask the issue. We should always be aiming to heal our horses to enhance performance, to lengthen careers and because they deserve it.
